USPS/Government Employment Scams

Scammers will take advantage of those who are eager or desperate for a job. They offer enticements and unbelievable claims about job opportunities, saying they have guaranteed jobs or will hire you on the spot—no questions asked. Then, you find out they want money to help you get that job or to accept your application. The Postal Service and other government agencies will never charge you for information about jobs or for applications.

U.S. Postal Inspection Service - Employment Scams PSA

Postal Inspector Andrea Avery offers valuable advice to job-seekers about employment scams.

Protect Yourself from Employment Scams

  • Only apply for jobs with USPS jobs at about.usps.com/careers.
  • USPS will never charge you a fee to apply for a job or take a Postal Service exam.
  • Be wary of websites that claim to be able to help you apply for a USPS job or that charge a fee to get you a job.
