Mail Thief Arrested While in Possession of U.S. Postal Service Key

Chicago, IL – On March 20, 2025, a joint operation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and Chicago Police Department led to the arrest of Donald Hill, 35, of Chicago, IL, in the vicinity of 6900 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL. Hill was identified as the suspect responsible for multiple mail theft incidents on Chicago’s Northwest side and across the Chicagoland area since at least 2024.

Based on the investigation, Hill was charged by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office with one felony count of possession of burglary tools and two misdemeanor counts of theft of lost or mislaid property. Additional charges are pending. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service appreciates the assistance of the Chicago Police Department, particularly Chicago Police 16th District detectives and tactical teams, in this investigation.

It is important to note that criminal charges are only allegations against a person. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
