The United States Postal Inspection Service announces the opening of a LIMITED HIRING application window for POSTAL INSPECTOR POSITIONS ONLY.

  • LIMITED CONDITIONS OVERVIEW

    WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED:

    1811 Series Criminal Investigator
    Applicants eligible to apply must be currently employed for a minimum of three years as an OPM-designated 1811 Series Criminal Investigator (career or career-conditional) and willing to work in one or more of the locations listed below.

    Relocation expenses are NOT authorized.

  • 1811 SPECIAL SKILLS CRITERIA

    FOREIGN LANGUAGE

    For Newark/San Juan, PR Location ONLY.
    Advanced competency and fluency in written and verbal communications for Spanish.
    *The foreign language skill possessed should be included in applicant’s online application.

    Candidates must successfully complete a formal oral proficiency test administered through the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

    CYBER/SECURITY TECHNOLOGY

    For National Headquarters – Cyber/Security Technology position ONLY.
    Applicants with at least 2 years of work experience in any of the following areas:

    • Cyber Security
    • Network Intrusion Incident Response
    • Network or Computer Forensics
    • Dark Web Investigations
    • eCommerce Fraud Related Investigations
    • Crypto-currency Related Investigations

    Describe your Cyber/Security Technology work experience in the Cybersecurity, Incident Response or Forensics Experience text box in the application.

    And possess one or more of the following certifications:

    • SANS Certifications: GCIA, GCFE, GCFA, GNFA
    • DCITA Cyber Crime/Network Forensics Certifications
    • CISSP
    • Security +
    • Network +

  • VETERANS' PREFERENCE

    Applicants entitled to veterans’ preference are eligible to apply if you meet the basic eligibility, qualifications, and special skill requirements in this vacancy announcement. To claim veterans’ preference, you will be required to provide the DD Form 214 (Member Copy 2, 4, 7, or 8), Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.

  • HOW TO APPLY INSTRUCTIONS

    All OPM-designated 1811 Series Criminal Investigator applicants must apply competitively via the Inspector Recruitment Application System (IRAS), and will undergo an abbreviated applicant screening process.

    You will need these computer specifications to apply for the position:

    • Internet Explorer 11, Chrome 51 or higher, Firefox 30 or higher
    • Phone and tablet devices are not supported

    Applicants who have previously applied for the Postal Inspector position do not need to create a new profile:
    You will need to validate your Social Security Number (SSN) if you wish to reapply for this position.

    1. Log into IRAS with your User ID and password
    2. Review and update your profile information.

    New applicants must create an account with a User ID and password:

    1. Select Applicants Registration at the top of the page to initiate the application process.
    2. On the New Account page, complete all fields with an asterisk.
    3. Select Create User. You will be advised to check your email for further instructions. Please check your spam folder as well.
    4. Look for an email with the subject line: New Account Validation. It will confirm your new account and instruct you to copy and paste a URL into the web browser.
    5. A new message will appear: User has been validated.

     

    You may then begin the application process:

    • Select Click Here to log in. Enter all fields and select Save.
    • To change information after saving, select My Profile.
    • You may edit your profile on the View Profile page.
