Chicago Man Arrested for Robbery of a USPS Letter Carrier, Burglary, and Theft

Chicago, IL – A joint investigation by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Chicago Police Department resulted in the arrest on August 26, 2025, of Joshua Walder, 24, of Chicago, IL. Walder was arrested for his role in the November 2024 robbery of a United States Postal Service (USPS) letter carrier on the 6200 block of S. Evans Ave. in Chicago.

On November 14, 2024, Walder approached the letter carrier and demanded postal property while threatening to use force. Walder then illegally entered a USPS vehicle and stole U.S. Mail. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Walder with one felony count of robbery, one felony count of burglary, and four felony counts of theft of government property.

“This arrest is a statement that violent crime against USPS employees will not be tolerated, and the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” said Ruth M. Mendonça, Inspector in Charge, Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. “The Postal Inspection Service will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to collectively pursue criminals who victimize postal employees and customers.” The Postal Inspection Service appreciates the assistance of the Chicago Police Department with this investigation and arrest.
