0:08 All right. 0:08 So what does USPIS actually do? 0:11 So the Postal Inspection Service is the federal law enforcement 0:14 and security branch of the Postal Service. 0:16 Most people don't know what the Postal Inspection Service is. 0:19 People see me every day and they'll say, 0:21 "What are postal police?" 0:22 We are part of the fabric of this nation. 0:24 Every single person who gets a piece of mail 0:26 is protected by the Postal Inspection Service. 0:29 It is an amazing, mind-blowing process 0:32 that the Postal Service has to process the mail 0:35 and get it from one place to another. 0:37 The mail is still one of the primary methods of communication that we have. 0:40 And if something were to happen that would cause 0:43 the mail to not be able to be delivered, 0:45 that would be catastrophic. 0:47 Billions of pieces of mail go through our system every single year, 0:51 and most people enter things into our mail stream with good intent. 0:55 But we have some folks that have bad intent 0:57 and want to hurt people. 0:59 Sometimes the mail is used to send dangerous and hazardous items. 1:03 This could be bombs, 1:05 illegal narcotics, 1:06 biohazards. 1:08 When there is a misuse of the mail, 1:11 we are there to then investigate. 1:13 The Postal Inspection Service has a huge mission. 1:16 Enforcing all the laws that protect the Postal Service and United States mail 1:20 from criminal attack and dangerous use 1:22 and ensuring America's trust. 1:24 Just to set up what the universe looks like for us, 1:28 there's approximately 2,300 Postal Inspection Service employees. 1:32 This is a global operation. 1:36 That team is made up of Postal Inspectors, 1:38 which are federal agents. 1:40 And then we have our Postal Police Officers. 1:41 I love being a police officer. 1:43 I love protecting people. 1:44 I love when people come and ask me for help. 1:47 We have people who analyze handwriting. 1:49 We have people who analyze counterfeit stamps. 1:52 We also have Professional, Technical, and Administrative employees. 1:56 To anybody who asks, 1:57 I would say that this job is so cool 2:00 because we can kind of get our hands on every little piece of crime. 2:05 The best decision I ever made was to 2:07 choose to be a United States Postal Inspector. 2:09 Here at USPIS, like we are a family. 2:12 We make sure we protect each other. 2:13 We always have each others back. 2:15 It is a calling, 2:16 a very hard job, 2:18 long days, long nights, 2:19 but it's the hardest job you're ever going to love. 2:21 I like making an impact every day. 2:23 I like being able to come home at the end of the day 2:25 and say that I did something that was important. 2:27 There are so many little pieces and little wins 2:30 that just make my job 2:33 incredible. 2:37 [Music]
