Here are some tips to remember before you donate:

Don't give cash. Make checks payable to the organization-never to an individual.

Don't feel pressured to give money on the spot. Take your time and research the charity.

Look at the name of the charity carefully. Some phony charities have names very close to legitimate ones.

And, lastly... Check out the charity's website - be suspicious if you can't find detailed information about a charity's mission and programs.
