0:00 - 0:04 Hi everyone, I'm Andrea Avery, United States Postal Inspector. 0:05 - 0:11 Hopefully you've been staying at home as much as possible, and practicing social distancing to avoid the coronavirus. 0:12 - 0:16 Although you maybe far safer from the virus at home, you're not safe from scammers. 0:17 - 0:22 Everytime there is a disaster of some type, scammers climb out of their hiding spots with schemes to take your money. 0:23 - 0:26 And thats the last thing the American public needs right now. 0:27 - 0:29 But, I want you to know that Postal Inspectors are ready for them. 0:30 - 0:35 We're out their investigating these frauds, and promise to help bring these criminals to justice. 0:36 - 0:41 In the meantime, there are things you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones from falling victim to scams and frauds. 0:42 Here are a few tips 0:44 - 0:50 Stay away from anyone saying you can get your stimulus check expeditetd, or that you need to pay taxes to get your funds. 0:51 - 0:58 Be weary of offers for vaccines, pills, potions, lotions or other products that faslely claim to cure or treat coronavirus. 0:59 - 1:02 Stay informed by getting information from trusted, reputable health authorities. 1:03 - 1:11 Don't click on links in emails, especially ones that claim to be from the Centers of Disease Control, or the WOrld Health Organization. 1:12 Be aware of charity scams 1:13 - 1:18 Check out the charity before you donate, and only contribute to established organizations. 1:19 - 1:25 Visit the Postal Inspection Service Website U-S-P-I-S dot gov for more information on scams, or to report one. 1:26 The Postal Inspection Service hopes you stay safe...and please take care of yourself, your families, and each other.
