Video of victim :00-:06 "I got a phone call from someone purported to be my grandson. Sounded exactly like him..." :13-:17 " and had some trouble and needed some money..." Hi. I'm Andrea Avery, United States Postal Inspector. This woman was targeted in what we call the "Grandparents Scam." Here's how it works. The scammer gathers a few facts about a person and then contacts that person's grandparents. They fabricate a story that there's been an accident - or their grandchild is in some kind of trouble - and they need money immediately. Mail it to this address, and we'll take care of your grandchild. Only, there's no accident. No one is in any legal jam. Everyone is safe. Except for your money. It's gone. Scams that ask for money immediately can be stopped just by telling the person to wait, and you'll call them back. And check with a family member. Often, your grandchild isn't even out of town! Don't fall for it. Once your money is gone, it's not coming back. Learn more about scams at U-S-P-I-S dot Gov.
