New Jersey: A drug kingpin was extradited to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic on September 1, 2020, following an investigation by Postal Inspectors and DEA agents in New Jersey and Idaho. Jose Francisco Guzman-Cabrera, 41, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, appeared in federal court on September 2 to face multiple charges related to his alleged management of a drug trafficking organization that distributed dangerous opioids to individuals throughout the United States through a website purporting to be an online pharmacy. After a customer of the online pharmacy overdosed on opioids in Boise, Idaho in 2017, law enforcement began a years-long investigation that included multiple undercover purchases from the online pharmacy, and the seizure of nearly 100,000 pills from a warehouse in New Jersey.
