Washington, D.C.
: Deputy Chief Postal Inspector Craig Goldberg joined several other federal law enforcement leaders at the Department of Justice on September 10, 2020, to announce the 50th arrest in a series of joint investigations into fraud against the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Originally intended to help small businesses obtain loans to support them through the COVID-19 pandemic, the PPP became a target for fraudsters looking to take advantage of the program. Postal Inspectors helped bring to justice these scammers who allegedly filed false applications under the PPP, and used the fraudulently-obtained funds for personal expenses, including exotic sports cars and houses.
